Emergency Medical Information and Identification Services Assist Physicians ...
/PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- After years of independently serving children and families, two key organizations – MedicAlert Foundation and Children's Hospital Central California (Children's) – have partnered to provide emergency medical information and identification services to children in the Central Valley. In an effort to improve health outcomes for young patients, as well as extend peace of mind and security to their parents, Children's will offer MedicAlert's live 24/7 emergency response/family notification services and Emergency Medical Information Record (EMIR). This alliance not only provides comfort to patients and their families, but also provides medical staff, paramedics, and other first responders with immediate access to patients' critical health information."The mission of Children's Hospital Central California is to provide high quality, comprehensive healthcare services to children," said , M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Children's Hospital Central California. "By working with MedicAlert Foundation, we will be able to extend the care we provide beyond the walls of our hospital."
Pediatric emergency patients, particularly those with complex medical conditions, often pose a real challenge for first responders in the field and community hospital emergency departments. The availability of key medical information about these patients is critical and can help to avert tragedies. Children's patients will be provided with MedicAlert's comprehensive services that assist in safeguarding and identifying individuals in an emergency. Members enrolled in the program will receive a personalized MedicAlert medical ID and emergency wallet card that provide first responders with identification information and details on any critical medical conditions, including medications, life threatening allergic reactions, and implantable medical devices. All calls to the MedicAlert live 24/7 emergency response center are answered by specially‐trained staff who provide vital information to first responders. MedicAlert patient information also is available online to authorized first responders and hospital emergency department personnel.
"MedicAlert was founded by a physician in 1956 after his daughter suffered a severe allergic reaction," said , President & CEO of MedicAlert Foundation. "Children have always been at the heart of the MedicAlert mission. While MedicAlert Foundation provides these services around the globe, we are extremely pleased to be working to serve children in our home area with such a respected and leading provider of pediatric healthcare in the nation as Children's Hospital Central California.

CFSI, MedicAlert Foundation To Recognize Excellence In Fire-Based ...
WASHINGTON, Jan. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) and the MedicAlert Foundation have announced the establishment of a new awards program to recognize fire departments from across the country for outstanding achievements in EMS services. The Excellence in Fire Service-Based EMS Awards Program will honor volunteer, career and combination departments that have established innovative and highly effective best practices in emergency medical services. Departments selected for their achievements will be honored at the annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner in Washington, hosted by CFSI. Fire Service-Based EMS plays a critical and time-sensitive role in the continuum of emergency medical services in this nation. Patient survival, to a large extent, is determined by the level and quality of care provided by fire department personnel. They are often the first on the scene and are trained and equipped to perform their duties under the most extreme conditions. The Excellence in Fire Service-Based EMS Awards Program will recognize fire departments that have implemented best practices in EMS. Through this effort, CFSI and the MedicAlert Foundation will seek to identify and promote best practices in Fire Service Emergency Medical Services that can serve as a model to help all fire departments seeking to enhance their own emergency medical services. "Across this country, we are hearing of outstanding practices fire departments have implemented to enhance emergency medical care, leading to higher survival rates for the victims and greater safety for our responders," said CFSI President Bill Jenaway. "We want to draw national attention to these efforts to encourage other departments to enhance their own practices; hence this new program. We thank the MedicAlert Foundation for their support of this initiative. They have an outstanding tradition of making positive contributions to public safety." "MedicAlert Foundation is proud to support this awards program in partnership with CFSI. Every day in communities across the country, fire personnel are there for all of us in times of need. We are equally proud that every day the MedicAlert Foundation is helping fire personnel and other first responders protect all of us too," said Andrew B. Wigglesworth, President and CEO of MedicAlert Foundation. "The adoption of evidence-based treatment plans, technology and best practices is the foundation of effective EMS care.
