Business Spotlight: CHILDish

EDMONTON - It started as a simple idea.

"I designed the logo of our preschool and he had these cute little clip-art faces that we use, so the idea was to make the faces and put them on dishes and let the kids choose one that resembles them "said Sarah Stickland.

With a little creativity, Stickland was able to take this simple idea and turn it into one of the newest West Edmonton thriving home business, childish.

Context

Being a self-described go-getter, Stickland said he was only natural for her to play an active role in the process of raising funds to care for her children, Mother's Day Out Southside.

"I do their fundraising for two years and within this, which I found was that it was just chocolates and a bunch of stuff junkie," says Stickland.

Thus, in an effort to bring some new life into fundraising, Stickland said she had the idea to put a face on food cartoon for children.Over the next few months, she was amazed at the popularity of the dishes, and the amount of positive feedback she received from other parents.

"The mothers kept saying well you should do it like a business", "Stickland said." And finally, I thought, "Well why not?"

So in January of this year, "childish" was born.

The company

Stickland said the company started a little slow.She spent the first three months really build the business name and reputation with the help of social media, word-of-mouth and a number of concessions a ways.

"(I wanted) to create a bit of a buzz," says Stickland. "Obtain samples on site and let people know what it is."

From the beginning, Stickland was pretty adamant about sticking strictly to the dishes, but it kept coming up with ideas more, she knew she had to develop.

At this time CHILD sells four different products (plates, lunch boxes, labels and cups), but Stickland said she has more than two dozen new ideas for products currently being tested.

"I want to customize the faces, but I also want it to be of high quality, good products that I use," Stickland said "If I'm not going to buy it, I will not sell . "

Back to school with us, says Stickland CHILD lunchboxes became his most popular items, it expects the food to come back for Christmas.
