Drumlin: Paper Flowers
Drumlin is a family obligation to play a harmless soft-Sixpence None the Richer-style soft pop that is as forgettable as it is harmless. Opener "Louie" quote a little verve, with Gilbert Anya (or is it Kassia Gilbert?) Song of stumbling on a roll, rhythm acoustic, but things quickly become silent, with words appearing in truly appalling "Cris" (a social protest song of the most awkward type) and "Try for me." "Sometimes it's hard to let go, just take it slow, I know I know I know."These are actual words that someone sings on this record, no kidding. If the words hard not to get lazy writhing, delivery dipped in molasses should do the trick. That said, there is a fair bit of musical life in the Celtic accents "darling" and the standard "Annabel Lee", but it is undermined by the sound eye-watering in "Paper Flowers" and "Little Things". As a group, has a sealing Drumlin cohesive and clever enough sense of pop song-craft, but guys, please, find yourself a songwriter.
