Why stop at subway stations? Rebrand the whole neighbourhood!

Last week, word came out of Toronto city council that local politicians were considering an effort to sell naming rights to subway stops around the GTA. The prototypical idea floated was to rename the Spadina station the McDonald’s Spadina station, which seemed a natural fit considering the restaurant’s ubiquitous presence throughout the city. Local businesses and corporate types cheered in support of this idea, while, typically, a group of no-goodniks and ne’er-do-wells protested the crass commercialism driving it. Those of us at Games People Play, however, are supportive of such creative and fiscally dynamic measures and, for what it’s worth, we, in this space, would like to offer a few ideas of our own should the city continue down this naming-rights road. In the 21st century, cities must take measures to allay recent chronic spending, and we applaud the Ford regime’s ability to meet these difficulties head-on.

For instance, we feel the Kipling station should be renamed the Cialis Erectile Dysfunction/Kipling stop in homage to the legions of young paramours whose martini-soaked weekend clubbing often gets the best of their romantic endeavours. Alternately, the Oxo Brite Non-Chlorine Bleach/Kipling station would also work, considering the excess of cleaning liquid required to ready the station for Monday commuters.

Considering its proximity to Toronto’s Rainbow Village, the College street station should be renamed the Atelier Cologne Trefle Pur/College stop — “Apply sparingly around your neck and upper torso for a scent that will last all night and well past breakfast the next morning”— in consideration of the finely-groomed nature of the enclave’s denizens.

Come to think of it, the city’s Italian hub — sitting to the west of the station — would benefit from this association, as well. It would certainly encourage Toronto residents to consider the importance of high-end application mists, and on Tuesday mornings — garbage pickup day — this cannot be an entirely bad thing.

To the east, Warden station might be rebranded Reader’s Digest “Feel Good About Yourself”/Warden stop as a way of bettering the generally neglected nature of the city’s far east end. In the same spirit of coping with woe and a measure of civic insecurity, the Alpenbitter #7 Stomach Bitters might work, as would the potential anodyne of a Breyers Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream sponsorship.

Should the city want to go in a different direction, they might ask the Safe-Co Beard Trimmer for Twentysomethings Corp. to get involved, or perhaps the Don't Surf, Work! parents' group who have recently taken to raising awareness over computer usage

Property thefts

We live on Penn Street right behind Southside High School. In the past few days, we have had a tree trimmer and a Weed Eater stolen in broad daylight. One of our neighbors had a marble firepit carried off, and another has reported items stolen.

Info on Walk Behind String Trimmers / Brush Mowers??? - Lawn Mower ...

I am in te market for a Walk Behind Brush Mower but most are the large commercial ones and are out of my budget I have found a coupple similar in design Ardisam, Husqvarna, Powermate and Ariens. But they seem to be made out of plastic as to the guard that is underneath that is to stop debris from flying back and at you. Also seems the String that is used is not much in quality because they seem to quickly break and even one manufacturer suggests leaving the new string in water till you use it. I am looking for something to replace an old side discharge push mower for 20 arces I have and need to keep the grass / weeds down. Wondering if these are worth the money or if I need to just buy another Side Discharge push mower. Seems some like them and others don't. They suugest they can cut large stuff but when parts are made out of plastic hard to see how well it can work in a field with rocks and etc being thrown up. I don't use a mower to cut all 20 acres just about 5 of the property. But besides that I guess these walk behinds are not worth the $. I have a regular string trimmer but after carrying it for a while I get tired of doing so and with large areas to cut 3 & 4 ft grass and weeds it is hard to do. As for the large more commercial models I have heard good an bad about a few and and agin I don't have 3K to spend on one and the lowend cost ones are just that low end models. Plus te fact that most walk behind mowers today have the pull start cord strung out across the mower though a safety requirement the cord gets caught up and cut and is useless and having to rplace it is just not worth the tiome and money. Guess I will just have to buy a new engine for my side discharge mowert and hope I get a decent engine that will work with the deck I currently have. The walk behind string mowers are up to the task... The way it goes today hate the cord exposed and most are made that way so you can hold the required safety levers to start it I am the ole school and won't buy an engine that has all these safety things most walk behind mowers have today... Just sad they have to make them like that.
