DAYTON, Ohio -- Recent hail storms damaged many roofs in the Miami Valley. Residents are scrambling to make repairs, contacting insurance companies and roofers to get the job done. Your Better Business Bureau advises you not to make any quick decisions
Hailstorm's damage still being totaled - Saturday, July 02, 2011 ...

It could take a year, or even two, to repair damage done by a vicious hailstorm to thousands of homes and vehicles in the region on May 25.
Contractors say thousands of roofs may be damaged. Consumers are being asked to watch out for fly-by-night repair crews.
Car dealers are making "what-the-hail" deals on damaged vehicles. And state police warn about driving uninspected "salvage" cars.
Gary Rexroad, owner of R&S Builders in Findlay, said it is likely about 4,500 Findlay homes were damaged, from the west side of Hancock County 140 to the east side of Main Street, and from Ohio 12 north to Hancock County 99.
"We drew a map out to where the hail had likely hit," Rexroad said. A Toledo mailing company told him how many homes are in that area.
And based on damage he's seen elsewhere, Rexroad said he "wouldn't be surprised if it weren't a little higher."
"We have quite a bit (of hail-related calls)," said R&S manager Alan Huskin said. "But the insurance companies are slow to get people what they're going to pay them, so we're roofing them as they get approved, and they're just barely starting to be approved now."
Many homes need new roofs, and many need siding repairs, Huskin said.
"Everyone needs something," Huskin said. "It can be hard to match the siding, so a lot of people are getting complete new siding."
Dave Turner, owner of Cherokee Construction, Findlay, said he's never seen a hailstorm this bad in his 48 years of business.
"We've been extra busy. We've had three guys out on it doing eight calls apiece a day. I don't know if we thank the Lord for the hail damage or not," he said.
Turner said his company has been responding to calls around Northgate Boulevard, Bigelow and Melrose avenues, Springbrook Drive, Terrace Lane, and at a mobile home park on Hancock County 140.
"The majority of it is roofs, and some of the aluminum siding has been damaged, and some vinyl, too. Some of the older aluminum siding has got dents in it, broken windows, just a little bit of everything," Turner said.
Mark Sica, owner of SICA Construction, Findlay, said he has fielded calls "all the way to Vanlue and Mount Blanchard.
