Board cites high local prices in awarding contracts
Board member Keith O'Neale Jr. said more than the final bid total must be taken into account when comparing a local company to one based elsewhere. A local company likely would include gross receipts taxes, excise taxes and freight into their bid price, which would make the bid higher, he said. But using a local company would mean additional tax revenues. - A $1.3 million contract with Broadmap to implement the second phase of the State Broadband Data Development Program. The territory received a $1.4 million federal grant to track the increase in broadband use and speed once the network is operational. Broadmap will also work with the V.I. Water and Power Authority to map a smart grid and with the Lt. Governor's Office to map street addresses.
