Things To Do in Scottsdale: Favorite Attractions in Scottsdale Arizona
Below are some of our favorite Scottsdale attractions, organized alphabetically by the type of attraction.
Pinnacle Peak
A hike up Pinnacle Peak is one of our favorite things to do in Scottsdale. Not only are the views impressive, but so is the magnificent 150-acre parkland of gigantic jumbled boulders, towering saguaros, and iconic desert plants.
Located in north Scottsdale, the 1.75 mile, one-way trail gradually ascends to a viewpoint where you can see some of Arizona's most impressive mountains looming in the distance.
Besides hiking, there's picnicking, birding, horseback riding and rock climbing (permitted for experienced climbers in three areas of the park only). Pinnacle Peak can be crowded on weekends, so plan your visit accordingly.

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park
A visit to this family-friendly park, conveniently located in the center of town, is one of the best and most economical things to do in Scottsdale for kids.
Even we two big kids thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at this charming spot.
As its name suggests, you can ride a train here.
Although it's a very small train, kids of all ages will enjoy chugging along on the Paradise and Pacific Railroad , which loops through the grassy and tree-lined park.
The Scottsdale Live Steamers offer free rides on their even smaller 7.5" gauge trains on Sunday afternoons (except during the summer).
A 10,000 square foot model-train building has three different motorized model-railroad exhibits and is home to the park's railroad clubs.
In addition to the trains, the park has two playgrounds, a carousel, snack shop, gift shop, and the McCormick Historical Railroad Exhibit (closed in the summer).
The McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park offers a birthday party package that includes rides and a hosted celebration in the Birthday Party Railroad Car. You can also reserve one of the nine ramadas for your own party.

McDowell Mountain Preserve
Although many luxury homes stretch up the sides of the McDowell Mountains, the city of Scottsdale and the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy have been working together to set aside open space for hiking, wildlife watching, and horseback riding.
