Bruce G. Sundlun, business magnate and Rhode Island governor, dies at 91

Bruce G. Sundlun, 91, a decorated pilot world war II bomber who has made millions of dollars as a business tycoon and served two turbulent period of two years as governor of Rhode Island, died July 21 at his home in Jamestown, RI He had an infection and complications of medical intervention.

Mr. Sundlun, a native of Rhode Island, has amassed his fortune through jet charter and distribution points. He gained public notoriety more cantankerous as governor has acknowledged paternity of a child out of wedlock.

Mr. Sundlun ordered a freeze on $ 2 billion held in 45 banks and credit unions to 300,000 depositors - about a third of state residents.

The controversial decision has sparked protests across the state, including an event where 250 people crammed on a highway, traffic entanglement for two hours. Mr. Sundlun has not helped his cause with an abrasive personality indeed.

However, he resolved to the banking crisis in the 18 months of his term through a government-funded rescue, and depositors received their money in full.
